In Loving Memory of my Baby Girl, Ola
A beloved companion, loyal friend, and forever member of the family
It is with deep regret and the most difficult thing I’m trying to do but I must memorialize my baby girl Ola. My baby girl was so sweet, smart and a strong protector.
We first met Ola on 7/25/2022 at the Flying J rest stop in Carney’s Point NJ in the early morning hours. She was with a group of 10 Bassets being transported from the south by Amy and Doug. That was a night I’ll always remember. We met so many wonderful foster families and Bassets’.
We were assigned Ola to foster and fell in love the moment we saw her. I knew we were a foster fail from the start. She was only 18 months old and immediately bonded with our 2 other adopted TSBHR Basset’s. We were blessed with her for a short time, a little over 4 years. Ola passed 8/23/2026 after a brief medical emergency. We are devastated with grief. Her little brother and best buddy Bean are so lost. Ola and Bean were two peas in a pod. They played and wrestled all the time and spent hours together in the back yard protecting their turf and chasing bunnies and squires. Ola just adored her big brother Bubbles, and he so loved her too.
I reminisce about a time we were taking a walk and a large dog from the neighborhood, jumped over the owner’s fence and came charging towards my wife. Ola stood her ground and defended her, attacking the dog who then ran back to the home whimpering. Ola knew all the dogs in the neighborhood and where they lived and was generally friendly and loving to many, however the few dogs that she did not like she would stand in front of the homes and bark at the house.
Ola, I miss the way you hopped when you ran on your walks with Mom and Bean. I miss the way you stared at me with that beautiful Regal Basset Hound face in the kitchen while I was cooking. I still stare at the same spot every night hoping you would be there. I miss the way you always got under foot, nearly tripping me when I was preparing your meals and how you loved to eat. I miss coming home to paper towels ripped up all over the living room when you and Bean were being mischievous. I miss spooning with you on the couch. Your big brother Bubbles has since taken your place. I still look underneath the recliner when I’m getting up because you always slept there. Mommy misses sitting on the couch giving belly rubs that you always enjoyed. She misses cleaning your ears because she knew how much you loved having them cleaned. I’ve never had a Basset Hound who wanted and enjoyed having their ears cleaned. I could go on and on about your quirky and wonderful personality. You are so missed and I think of you every moment.
But for today I’ll remember Baby girl with love and gratitude. Ola was more than a dog; she was family and the leader of the pack. Her presence brought comfort, joy, and warmth into everyday life. I didn’t realize the impact you had on our home until you were gone. The house is so quiet and still without you. The crumbs that fall on the floor stay there.
Your memory will always hold a special place in our hearts along with all the other Bassets’ who lived here before and are greeting you at the bridge.
You gave the kind of love that asked for nothing and gave everything. In the wag of your tail, the softness of your eyes, and the quiet companionship you offered. Ola reminds me now how powerful simple, faithful love can be.
We will remember the happy moments, the gentle routines, the walks, chasing rabbits and squirrels, the happy greetings when we came home, and the peaceful times spent together. Those memories are gifts that will remain long after goodbye.
Run free, my sweet baby girl Ola with your big brother Columbo. May there be sunshine, open fields, plenty of treats and peace wherever you are. You were deeply loved, you will be dearly missed, and you will be forever remembered, until we meet again. WE LOVE YOU BABY GIRL OLA!!!!!
