RALPH
Ralph is a 5- to 7-year old happy Basset boy. He was surrendered to a shelter when his owner had to move. He seems to be fine with everyone he has met. He has never lived with or been exposed to young children. and is probably too energetic for cats. Ralph is very playful, loves to be with you wherever you go, and will snuggle with you. He is good with other dogs and acts half his age. |
|
|
SHERLOCK Three year old Sherlock is friendly and cute, just adores attention and seeks people out to get pets. He loves all other dogs and kitties and loves to play a good game of chase but will not harm the kitties. He is house trained but when overly excited or if he's been crated a very long time get him out fast as he will need to go quickly.
Sherlock bends like a gumby and loves bellyrubs and kisses. He walks well on a leash and enjoys car rides. He's crated in his foster home when alone but doesn't like being pushed into the crate or dragged by his collar (who would??) He might mumble or grumble some when being crated but a treat goes a long way in helping him into the crate.
Sherlock is a very vocal boy when playing or waiting for food. His foster mother says that he is the most lovable sweet hearted boy around and is very happy to sit in your lap or a favorite dog bed or people chair (if you let him) and be quite content. If no good beds are available he willingly goes into a crate to sleep and stays there all night. He loves the sunbeams and is a heat sucker! He snuggles up to the heat vent or fireplace in the house.

|
WINDY Windy is a sweetheart who is a real lovebug. Approximately 2 - 4 years old, she likes other dogs and would be fine with children over 12. She can be energetic and sometimes plays a bit rough but just needs help in learning how to channel that energy. She's doing well with housetraining and needs to be placed in a home with a canine companion to keep her company. |
|
|
KOBE Kobe is described as "a big sweet goof" by his foster mother. He's an affectionate 4 year old who is playful and smart and is generally a "perfect gentleman", if you don't try to force him to do something he doesn't want to do. A sensitive boy, Kobe doesn't like to be forced to do things - ask him nicely and use a food treat as a reward and he'll be very happy and compliant. He loves children and has no food aggression, gets along well with other dogs and is housetrained. |
|
|
BAILEY Bailey is approx. 3 years old and described by his foster home as loving and smart. He is crate trained and has been trained to ring a bell to go outside. He is not destructive in the house or yard, listens to basic commands and seems to want your approval. We recommend crating him when fed around other dogs. |
|
|
MARIA Maria was dumped at a NY kill shelter by her original owner. She is very sweet, active, and on the lithe side since she is a bassetdor (basset/lab mix). We believe she is about 2 years old, and gets along with everyone. |
|
|
BOSCOE
This beautiful boy was turned in to a shelter as a stray. He's about 1 1/2 years old and is on the small side at approximately 40 pounds. He has good manners and is a cuddler. Bosco loves to play with the other Bassets in his foster home and is very affectionate. This delightful boy will be a wonderful addition to a loving home. |
|
|
DAISY Daisy is an adorable 8 yr old tri-colored basset who is friendly as can be to everyone she meets. Don't be surprised if she goes belly up for tummy rubs as soon as she lays eyes on you. She was all tail wags to a young girl on a bike and exuberantly waddled over to meet her. She was also very happy to meet two neighborhood cats--they did not reciprocate her appreciation!
Daisy is a crooner. She is also inquisitive and explored every inch of her surroundings, tail wagging the entire time. She is anxious if you're not in her line of site but soon settles down if you ignore her and go about your business. Daisy happily comes when called and is very food motivated. She would make a great addition to a home with children and would be fine in a home with lots of activity. She is perky and interested in her world. Can you give her a brave new world to explore? |
|
|
JESSICA Jessica is a 10-month old adorable beagle-basset mix , what we call a bagle. She is very sweet, in the process of being re-housetrained, and loves other dogs. She was found as a stray and picked up kennel cough at the shelter, for which she is being treated. |
|
|
AIMEE Aimee is a 9-month old wild child of a hound. She is very cute, quite comical, but needs obedience training to learn some manners. She sounds as if she is talking to you sometimes when she uses that unusual bark. She loves playing with other dogs, is intrigued with cats, and is too mouthy at this point to be around young children. Special thanks to Denise & Bob Rushworth for sponsoring Aimee. |
|
|
SEBASTIAN Sebastian was surrendered to a kill shelter by an owner who was forced to give up her beloved dog because her husband and she were moving in with the mother-in-law who didn't like dogs. He is approximately 5 years old, an absolute joy - housetrained, gets along with other dogs, ignores cats, and likes to snuggle with you. His eyes are soulfully asking if you will be his forever family, who will provide a loving home. |
|
|
HANK Hank came to us described as a basset hound mix, but he may be a beagle-lab mix. Approx. 9-10 years old, he is relatively quiet, low key, and thrives on any attention you give him. He is housetrained and very funny - he loves to take his stuffed toys when he runs out of the door to go potty. |
|
|
FRED & MARLEY It's a good thing that we don't adopt Bassets out by the pound or you'd go broke on Fred and Marley!! Marley and Fred are happy boys who need a home together. Fred is a lovable couch potato. At 4 years old, he's a very healthy 80 pounds - maybe a little too healthy! He's very affectionate and he enjoys being around his people. Fred is good with other dogs and cats and loves children. Belly-rubs and ear scratches are some of his favorite things. Fred is housetrained and is also crate-trained. Although he’s a big boy, he thinks he's a lap dog so get ready for an extra large lap-ful of Basset! Three year old Marley, also a big boy at 75 pounds, loves attention and demands lap time just like his brother. He likes to play and will mischievously steal laundry for attention. He also likes kitties but enjoys a good game of ’chase the cat’ if the kitty obliges. Marley loves kids and especially likes to ’play’ with some of their toys, so care should be taken to keep things out of hound's reach. Marley is also housetrained and crate-trained. If you're looking for a couple of buddies, Fred and Marley fit the bill!!
|
|
|
ELLIE : Ellie, a German Shepherd mix, came in as a stray companion to a little blind boy basset at a shelter in PA. She is VERY sweet, housetrained, enjoys other dogs and people. She will climb into your lap for hugs and kisses. Ellie will need some obedience training, but is very smart and willing to please. |
|
|
DUNCAN Guardian angels do exist, and Duncan is the proof! Saved by a kind Samaritan from the side of a highway where he was found next to the body of a dog who had been hit by a car, this sweetie is grateful for everything you do for him. Approximately two years old, Duncan is a true gem. While he has puppy energy and exuberance, he does his best to listen and tries to do what you want him to -- but sometimes his enthusiasm gets the better of him! He will jump up on you to say 'I love you!' or check out what's on top of the counters but that's easily corrected with some basic positive obedience training. Duncan is currently in a foster home with other dogs and loves everyone, young and old alike. He will be cat-tested soon, but we anticipate that he will like the kitties along with everyone else. Duncan is mostly Basset with a beautiful head, but the gorgeous ticking on his coat and his extra two to three inches in height hint that there was a mix somewhere in his bloodlines. Duncan is a very lucky boy and his adoptive family will be, too! |
|
|
ROCKY This three year old bundle of energy will keep you entertained! Poor Rocky has had a very rough start in life. He's had several homes in his short life but fortunately is now in a foster home where he's getting the stability that he needs. He's a playful and energetic boy who is learning how to channel his energy appropriately and respond to limits. He now knows what kisses are and a few smooches can put him right to sleep! Rocky loves the company of other dogs and would probably do best in an active home that would involve him their activities. He might be too exuberant for young children but older kids and teens would be fine. |
|
|
MANDY Oh, Mandy… (think Barry Manilow here)!! Three year old Mandy is a sweet and affectionate girl who loves to give Basset hugs. She’s good with other dogs and children but may be a bit too exuberant for young children. Mandy is housetrained. She loves to play so would do well in an active family or with a companion dog.
|
|
|
MAGGIE ANN MAE Miss Maggie is a people-person and would love to meet you. Almost 2 years old, she loves to give and get kisses from her special people. She’s an expert at giving 'the look' when she wants to sit on your lap, or she’ll sometimes sit next to you on the couch and lay her head on your shoulder. Maggie loves to play with her favorite toys and will bounce her tennis ball and catch it or sometimes play hide and seek with it. Sitting in the sun watching the world go by (or snoozing if she gets really comfy) are some of her favorite activities. Maggie has had a problem with urinary tract infections but it’s been completely managed with a special diet and distilled water. This sweet girl loves to snuggle and needs a family who is looking for a companion and best friend. Maggie can be bossy with some other dogs so she needs to be an only dog. Older kids OK. |
|
|
CLUE What’s short, sweet, lovable and adorable? You don’t need a hint, just a Clue!! Six year old Clue is a terrific boy who is good with everyone and loves to be the center of attention. Being surrendered because his owner’s circumstances have changed, he may need some help in adjusting to his new family’s routine and housetraining schedule. But patience and consistency will help Clue remember his housetraining skills. Described as ’incredible’ by his owner, Clue will be the missing piece to your puzzle.
|
|
|
BOBO This handsome eight year old hound is in need of a home where the belly-rubs are abundant, hotdogs are frequently on the menu and there's a comfy spot for a good nap! Described by his owners as a ’wonderful companion’, Bobo loves other dogs and walks, is very loving and quickly makes new friends. He will be a happy boy in a home with lots of attention and some play time. Bobo has not adjusted well to the activity of the young children in his home so he will need to be in a home without children under 12. Bobo is a big love who knows how to use his Basset charms to get what he wants - and he wants you!! |
|
|
THUNDER Thunder was an owner surrender to a shelter - the owners were moving and decided not to take him. Very sad for this adorable five-year-old basset. He needs to lose a few pounds, but with the right family and a playmate or two, he should do fine. |
|
|
BERNIE/GRACIE Four year old Bernie, known as Gracie, is a terrific girl. She is housetrained, good with children, cats and other dogs, and is crate-trained. She loves the toddlers that come to visit in her current home but may knock them over in her happiness to see them. Gracie would do well in a home where she would get lots of attention and play time and would enjoy having a doggie companion. |
|
|
EMILY ROSE Dainty 5 year old Emily Rose knows that she is Princess-material and she's waiting for her 'forever castle.' Adorable and full of personality, Miss Emily Rose has decreed that she must be the only houndie in the castle and get all of the attention - no small two-leggers either, to compete with her cuteness! (Ten and up ok.) Emily Rose is making improvements with her housetraining but she will need continued reinforcement. Squeaky toys are demanded by 'Her Highness' and she will voice her displeasure if the supply is inadequate! A home with someone around much of the time would be ideal. Kitties are OK, as long as they're willing to play second-fiddle to royalty. |
|
|
STANLEY When this three year old sweetie was brought to a shelter as a stray he was skin and bones. But he has a joyful spirit and loves everyone. Stanley would do well in a home where someone was around much of the time, to help him re-learn all of the things that he might have forgotten when he was struggling to survive on the streets. He's good with other dogs and would do fine with teens. Stanley deserves the love and security of a forever home. |
|
|
POLLY
Polly's original owner had to go into a nursing home. Polly was very confused and frightened, but is now being lovingly cared for in her foster home. She is sweet, housetrained, and quite the character! She loves her new stuffy duck and will surely love you, too.
|
|
|
PETIE'S BEN
Ben is approx. 7-8 yrears old. His owner, who died recently of cancer, had contacted TSBHR to make sure Ben would a wonderful home in the future. He is currently in foster care and is looking forward to spending the rest of his days with a forever family. He rolls over for belly rubs when anyone comes in the door, is housetrained, likes children, and is up-to-date on his shots.
|
|
|
BUDDY
:
T
his
guy would just love to be your buddy. Turned over to
Tri-State
because his elderly owner fell and had to enter a nursing
home, 4 year old Buddy loves attention and clearly misses
the companionship of his person. A big boy, Buddy is a
"gentle
giant." He is on a diet and needs to continue to
lose
some weight. He is friendly and good with other animals,
but can be a bit of a scaredy-cat sometimes. Although
Buddy
is a Basset mix, he certainly has the sweetness of a
Basset
and knows how to flop onto his back for belly-rubs. This
handsome fellow is eager to find his new forever home.
|
|
|
MAGGIE
Maggie is very sweet and full of energy. She will need some basic training, so she does not do things like taking the dog toys or your sneakers and run outside with them. Puppy fun!
|
|
|
LADY ALICE
who's approximately 9 years old, is as sweet
a dog as you'll ever meet. She is a real people person and
loves
one-on-one attention. Lady Alice has charmed her foster
family into adopting her, and is continuing to blossom in her new home, which
is killed with love.
|
|
|
ISAAC B. HOUND
:
Six or seven year old Isaac is a gorgeous red and white fellow who's looking
for love! He's good with other dogs and is housetrained. With some
separation anxiety,
Isaac needs someone to be around during the day, or at least part of the day.
Isaac is now relaxing in a secure new home.
|
|
|
DROOPY
Droopy has been described by his foster home as a charming, sweet boy.
Whatever he was put through he is still so loving and obedient. This dog
follows simple commands and would do anything just to get affection and
snuggles. It's a little odd, he would rather have a hug than a treat. Now he
has a new home to give him unconditional love.
|
|
|
JOEY
Joey is the cute open tri-colored basset shown in the photo with his friend
Chester, who has already been adopted. Joey is a high-energy boy who loves to
play, play, play. He is housetrained, very affectionate, and will be very
joyful in his new home.
|
|
|
BUSTER
Buster was dumped at a shelter by family who no longer felt they had time for
him. He is small for a basset, very cute, and loves attention. He is shy at
first since his first family did not treat him very well, but warms up
gradually to accept your pets, then turns into the full fledged love furboy who
likes being near you as much as possible. Buster has found a wonderful,
comfortable home.
|
|
|
PEBBLES
Pebbles was found as a stray in NYC, skinny, neglected, but obviously willing
to give humans another chance at providing a wonderful home with love and FOOD
for her. She is very vocal, active, and quite the character. Although her
paperwork from the shelter said they thought she was 6 years old, she acts more
like 2 years old. Pebbles is sure to bring her new home a great deal of
enjoyment.
|
|
|
GEORGE
George is a young adult basset with great exuberance. He is playful and loving,
but not meant for a home with small children. He still thinks he can jump into
your lap as if he were 3 months old instead of 2+ years. He is housetrained and
will make a wonderful companion in his new home.
|
|
|
ALEXIS
:
Alexis is a true princess who regally will rule the roost. She is a 9 year old
lemon and white basset, who is receiving medical care to
address some needs neglected by her original owners to return her to full
health. Her foster home cannot begin to imagine why the family
who had her for nine years would give her up. We were told they had moved into
a new home and she shed too much. Alexis has been adopted by her foster family.
|
|
|
DREW
:
Drew is a high energy, 1 1/2 year old looking for
someone with lots of patience and love. He's out-going,
very friendly and good with dogs, cats & kids. He would
do best in a home with another young dog to play with.
Drew has found a great family!
|
|
|
BEN
:
Nine year old Ben was given up by his original owners, who
had brought him to their vet to be euthanized, because they
did't want to care for him any longer. He is an absolute mushy
boy, who loves being around people and is good with other dogs.
He does, however, need to lose some weight. He is very
affectionate and loves nothing more than to be with people. Ben is now at the
Rainbow Bridge
receiving wonderful pets.
|
|
|
MACEY
:
Macey is an absolutely delightful 7 year old girl,
displaying true 'bassetude' with her staunch belief
that humans are here to serve her. She is extremely sweet,
can be playful, loves to be around people, and is good with
other dogs and cats. She is be a wonderful addition to her basset-loving
home!
|
|
|
LILY & LOLA
:
Lily and Lola never heard of the term, "sibling rivalry".
These beautiful sisters sleep together, eat together and
hate to be separated. Lily, the big sister, is about seven
years old. Lola, her little sis, is two and a half. Both are
very friendly, great with children and housetrained. They're
even cat-friendly. They've found a loving family anxious
to spoil these sweet girls.
|
|
|
MAGGIE
:
Poor Maggie has not had an easy life. Her original
owner died and the family had no time for her so off
she went to a shelter. She is very shy at first, but
extremely loveable. She's currently in a foster home
with two other female Bassets and learning what it's
like to be part of a pack. She is housetrained, somewhat
of a picky eater, and very affectionate. Maggie has found a wonderful family.
|
|
|
CLETUS
:
Sweet, little 4 year old Cletus came to us from an
abusive home and is now in a new home learning
about what the good life is. He loves children and
is good with other dogs.
|
|
|
TWINKIE
:
Twenty three pounds of charm, bagel Twinkie has the size and voice of a Beagle
with the
longer ears and body of a Basset. It's suspected that she was used for
breeding as her teats were enlarged when she was found as a stray. Twinkie is
highly socialized with
dogs and cats, and easily holds her own. Around 4 years old, she could be
called Twinkletoes for her
speedy, happy race around the yard. But she is terrified of strangers and of
being
left alone. She has a sweet personality and can be affectionate once she lets
herself trust. Twinkie needs
a home with someone who is around most of the day, and who is willing to work
with her on
separation anxiety. She is extremely smart and gentle, and would be okay with
older children who
won't startle her. Twinkie is now very happy at the Rainbow Bridge.

|
|
OTIS
:
Otis has a new owner, Melinda, who thinks he's awesome. He's the coolest dog
ever and can cheer anyone up.
The family cat likes Otis so much that he joins Otis and his owner on their
walks. Otis loves his walks --
when he sees his leash he barks and does the basset 500.
Melinda's father loves Otis; they snuggle all day until Melinda comes home.
Then Otis
follows Melinda around the house and sits with her. He loves to run in the
yard. When Melinda
sits on the floor and puts her arms otu, Otis runs to her. He also sits up and
gives paw. Otis still forgets
his housebreaking when no one is home, but they're working on that. Everyone
in the family loves him,
including the cats. Otis has a great family to snuggle and applaud his tricks.

ANGELO
:
Sad update: Sweet little Angelo was adorable, lovable and a heart-stealer.
Only eight months old, he was left at a shelter because he had a liver
condition that the owner didn't want to deal with. Those who saw Angelo at the
Basset Freedom Fest heard he was due for a follow-up appointment at Penn to
check the status of his liver values and how the stent and coils were working.
His appointment showed that progress was slow more extensive testing revealed
that there was still a considerable amount of blood flowing through the liver
shunt. Angelo was scheduled for surgery.
Although the surgery went well, it took almost 3 hours. Over the next several
days he had a difficult time recovering from the anesthesia and responding to
treatment. After three days of ups and downs, it became clear that Angelo was
really struggling. Bob and Sandy got to sit with him and tell him how much they
loved him before heaven recalled one of its most prized angels.
We've lost quite a few dogs over the last couple of years, but losing Angelo at
1 1/2 years of age is very difficult to handle. We don't know why this
happened and the doctors at Penn don't know why either. Hopefully, they will
be able to determine what went wrong and prevent it from happening to other
young dogs facing liver shunt problems.
We want to thank everyone who transported, fostered, loved, petted and cared
about Angelo. He was very special and we'll miss him dearly. Our little
Midgie-Man, our Jello was a madman when he was feeling good and loved to
snuggle up to your neck while sleeping on your lap. His condition had left him
with an un-yielding thirst for water and after a rainfall he could be found
laying on his back under the lounge chair on the deck licking the water
droplets off the underside of the cushion. He also used to like sleeping on
his back with all 4 legs in the air. Personality was his strong point and he
used it to his advantage. He knew how to get what he wanted from us and had
become quite fond of his evening treats.
We knew that we might not have Angelo for a long time, but we hoped for more
than this. It's funny how empty the house feels without his presence - we miss
him terribly.

ROVER
:
UPDATE - Rover has been in a foster home for several months
and has made terrific progress. He obviously had been abused in his former
home,
as he initially cringed and cried if sudden movements were made. This sweet 9
year old is learning to trust and so desperately wants to be loved.
He is still leery of having his belly rubbed, but seeks out attention and
responds well to kindness and affection. A low-key home without children
where Rover can settle in at his own pace would be ideal. He would do well as
an only dog.
|
|
|
MOE
:
Six year old Moe has such an engaging personality! Sweet and friendly, he
enjoys car rides, chasing the cat, chewing on his bone and sleeping in your
lap. He's housetrained and crate trained, although he wants you in eye sight
when he's crated. Moe prefers being stroked on the back, rather than patted
on the head. He's a gentle boy who will give someone years of
affection and pleasure.
|
|
|
FRANKIE
:
Want a lovable, huggable puppy who's very handsome and has a
great personality? At 2 years old, Frankie is an absolutely adorable, playful,
energetic boy. He loves to romp and would be great with an active family and a
canine companion. Frankie's foster Mom calls him 'a big klutz' – always
tripping over himself and anything in his way. He will need some reinforcement
in housetraining. Frankie is looking forward to giving a new family many years
of love and entertainment.
|
|
|
YOYO
:
Yoyo is the kind of Basset we hate to hear about. When he
came to Tri-State, his snout was raw from a long period of being muzzled, and
he had open wounds on the top of his nose. This poor little 5 year old had
been consistently abused, most likely by a man since he barks at men constantly
and demonstrates great fear of them. Yoyo is sweet and affectionate, good with
older kids and calm dogs, and is housebroken. Suffering from separation
anxiety, Yoyo needs someone with a flexible schedule. He would do best in a
home with a female, or with a couple where the man is very patient, kind and
low-key.
|
|
|
JASMINE
:
Turned into a shelter with 3 other dogs (see Bear & Comet), 4 year old Jasmine
is ready to become the
Queen of your castle. Social and happy, Jasmine would do well in a home with a
companion dog.
She's very well behaved and does great in the housetraining department.
Jasmine came to us very overweight
and is currently dropping some pounds in her foster home (but they're keeping
her happy at the same time!).
Because of her rough beginning, she will likely need a bit of patience as she
transitions to her new home.
|
|
|
PORKY & BEANS
:
What can you say about this terrific pair? Porky & Beans, both 4 years old,
are calm, sweet, social and charming.
They're good with kids and other dogs and are now in their new forever home.
They're good with housetraining, although Beans may have an occasional accident.
|
|
|
TRUMAN
:
Truman is a playful, energetic and determined little fellow who would do best
with an experienced
Basset owner who knows what to expect. He's a 1 1/2 year old who loves people,
treats and wrestling
with another young Basset. Combine his inquisitive nature with the fact that
he's a very quick learner
and you have a dog who can get himself into trouble! He's also a bit of an
escape artist so extra
care must be taken in controlling this boy. Truman is housetrained, handsome
and loves to cuddle &
sleep in your lap.
|
|
|
BEAR
:
Bear was adopted at age 1 1/2. His new mother writes: We absolutely adore
Bear! He has the cutest mannerisms....when we come home from work he just
lets out little howls and wiggles from head to toe with happiness. He sits and
gives paw and loves to play with big brother "Travis". Bear had some
housetraining
issues in the beginning, but quickly overcame them and now will come over and
tell us when he has to go out with a nudge & some panting. Bear loves mom, dad
and big brother Travis but he is especially attached to mom. He's definitely a
"momma's boy"!! He follows mom everywhere throughout the house & is always by
mom's side.
He's just too cute!! Bear loves to go for long walks, rides in the car and goes
crazy for Milkbones (or any treat for that matter!). Bear loves to cuddle with
mom
on the couch and watch TV.
We feel so good that we were able to adopt Bear from Tri-State Basset Rescue.
We don't know how we ever lived without him!! He's just such a wonderful dog.
|
|
|
RALPH & ALICE
:
Five year old Ralph and Alice are named after the Kramdens. Sweet and
energetic, they were probably used for breeding.
Now they've been altered and can be happily spoiled pets in their new home.
|
|
|
KATIE
:
Katie is a cheerful seven year old basset whose owner could no longer keep her
because she was not comfortable around the toddlers in the family.
Katie loves attention, is housetrained and spayed, is happy to have found a
forever, loving home.
|
|
BUDDY THE FUR BABE
:
Buddy is a very sweet one and a half year old furboy who loves playing with
other dogs and enjoys being around people.
He is very affectionate, needs some additional housetraining lessons, and loves
his walks. He's found a doting family to cuddle up to.
|
|
|
ROXY AND TESS
:
Roxy is the worrier of the pair of 3-yr old female bassets we recently took in.
She follows you around to make sure she has you in her
eyesight at all times. She is very attached to her friend Tess and would like
to find a home where the two can live together. Tess is an
absolute soft sweetheart of a furgirl, although she could use a weight-loss
program. These 3-yr old female bassets are terrific -
friendly, get along well with other dogs, walk well on leashes.
|
|
|
JB
:
JB is a big, beautiful two year old boy, very playful and just full of energy.
It was probably that youthful exuberance that led him to nip at a two-year-old
child; nevertheless he was turned into a shelter. He?s been nicely socialized
and is outgoing, friendly and good with other dogs. He would be great with
older children who know how to play with a puppy. Don?t you need a handsome
hunk like JB in your home?
|
|
|
FLORIDA & ALICE
:
Florida is a 6-year-old Scorpio and her adopted sister Alice is a 4-year-old
Pisces. They are very close, but very different in personality.
Florida is a little Miss Priss who hates the rain and tends to whine when she's
feeling unsure of herself. Alice is tougher and lets things roll off her back,
though she is very dependent on Florida for attention. Florida likes to think
she's more independent. They are both good with children, though
Florida is a bit shy at first. Alice is tri-colored and on the chunky side,
while Florida is red-headed with a girlish figure. They both have plenty of
energy and love to play. Neither of them howl, believe it or not, and Florida
only barks when she's happy. Alice doesn't like to bark much.
Florida and Alice are happy to report they've found a new family who can give
them lots of love.
|
|
|
SARAH
:
Two-year-old Sarah has been knocked around quite a bit in her short life. This
basset mix was found as a
stray, dirty, skinny, hungry and scared. She?s very shy because of her
experiences, but with love she is
beginning to put on weight and let her sweet personality shine through. She's
also learning to play, as the photo shows!
Sarah may need some help with housebreaking, but she's great with kids and
other dogs, and will make a lovable addition to her new family.

DALE

stray and is now resting quite comfortably in his new home,

nicely on the leash. He gets along great with other dogs and
is very gentle when taking treats.

MURPHY
:
If you like Basset bellies, Murphy wants to meet you. This handsome 4 1/2
year old has been bounced around a lot in his life and is sometimes scared
of new people. But once he knows you and trusts you, Murphy loosens up and
loves nothing better than a good belly-rub. He's a very sweet fellow who
gets along well with other dogs and loves to play. He does well on his
housetraining. Because he can be nervous around new people, Murphy needs a
low-key adult household where he can relax and enjoy getting the attention
that he's missed for most of his life.

MAGGIE
:
Maggie is used to being Ruler of the Roost – an only dog, who
is properly allowed to sleep on the couch, go for car rides, go walking and
hiking and in general be completely loved. This beautiful 7 year old is
housebroken and well socialized with other dogs; however, she knows she's alpha
and will do best as an only dog. She loves kids, especially older ones, and
tolerates cats with a regal disdain. True Basset royalty, Maggie is now Queen
of her new family's heart.

MOLLY
:
Before Tri-State got her, Molly was being kept outside. Although she got food
and water, she was being starved for attention. This six year old girl is very
sweet and very affectionate, and just wants to snuggle next to you. She's
currently being treated for eye and ear infections. Molly may need a little
housetraining, but is so eager for attention that she should respond quickly to
praise. Cute and adorable, Molly would be great with older kids. Molly has a
wonderful new home.

BEAUREGARD
:
Two year old Beauregard is all ears and cute to boot. This little guy is very
sweet and well-behaved, with a puppy's curiosity and attention span.
Beauregard is strong and muscular, and needs someone to teach him basic
obedience so he won't pull on his leash. He has found a great new home.

EDITH
:
Dame Edith is, simply put, a ham. She has an engaging
personality and is never happier than when she's on center stage. Outgoing,
sweet and full
of life, you'd never guess that this eight year old diva recently had a
cancerous tumor removed. Medically she has a good prognosis; now she needs
a home where she'll be pampered and loved. Edith is great with other dogs -
'the more audience the better', she comments. The lucky family who
adopts Edith will be constantly entertained and loved. Step right up and get
your ticket to the best show in town!

ARCHIE
:
Archie has red hair and a personality to match. This two year
old boy is full of himself, and can be possessive of things and somewhat
snappy. Archie has
had two homes previously, and was turned into a shelter by the second owner.
Archie is crate trained and walks well on a leash. With understanding and a
little effort, Archie will be a great companion for many years to come. A
special family has taken Archie into their home and hearts.

AMELIA
:
Amelia, who is approx. 8 to 10 months old, was looking for a home with Basset
knowledgeable food-slaves and another playful hound or two to help keep her
busy. She has a high energy level and needs some obedience training and
reinforcement with housetraining, which she is willing to learn. She is very
loving and her new forever family is lucky indeed to have found her.

HARLEY
:
Harley is a young Basset, approx. a year old, with an adorable face and a
wiggly little body. He will talk to you to tell you his latest stories,
snuggle next to you at night, and was looking for a Basset knowledgeable family
with a doggie friend or two with whom to play. He is very intelligent and gets
along fine with other dogs and cats.

PEANUT
:
Three year old Peanut is a one-eyed sweetie-pie. When she entered the care of
Tri-State, it was determined that her left eye had been injured and left
untreated, and was no longer visual. Because the eye was painful, the best
course of action was to have the eye removed. Peanut recovered fully from the
surgery and adapted beautifully to having only one eye - it hasn't slowed her
down one bit. She's a sweet girl who is active, playful and charming. Peanut
likes other dogs but would also do well as an only dog.

|
BUFORD
:
Handsome Buford is an energetic, friendly, and lovable boy. At three years old
he has lots of Basset energy, likes the sound of his own voice and has a great
personality. He walks well on a leash, which helps expend some of that energy.
Buford enjoys car rides and is housetrained. Buford needs to have a canine
companion to play with and would do well in a home with children. Cats OK.

ZOONER
:
Poor Zooner has had at least 3 or 4 homes (that we know of) in his young life
and really needs that once-and-for-all final home. He's only 4 years old but
has done more traveling and home changing than any dog should have to. He's
very sweet and friendly and mellow and loves to fold himself onto your feet.
He has not done well in a crate, which is understandable considering his past,
so having someone around much of the time would be a big bonus for him. Zooner
is lucky to have found a family who will enjoy spending time snuggling and
playing with him. This adorable fellow will eagerly return the love of his new
family.

ROCKY
:
Rocky is one smart cookie who is a quick learner. Almost 4 years old, he loves
everyone and everyone in the neighborhood loves him. He was looking for a new
home because his former owners didn't have enough time to spend with him, and
Rocky loves attention. Rocky has now found a new home where he's certain to
enjoy himself.

MAGGIE
:
Five year old tri-color Maggie was bit sad when her former owners dumped her,
and didn't understand why they left her at a kennel and never came back for
her. Now she has a family who will help her forget the hurts of the past and
remember that people can be kind. She's good with gentle children and is ready
for a new, loving home.
