Penny MILLIE-SUE/PENELOPE aka "PENNY" Dan and I started peeking for a dog to adopt in January. After running into a bunch of bad luck with other organizations, we stumbled across Tri-State. Tri-State had a thorough process, but we knew that this was the real deal. Through the bad weather, we finally got a home-visit arranged and were told "the next dog that suits the two of you will be yours." Dan and I were overwhelmed with joy! We picked her up from a boarding shelter in Quakertown, and was warned that this dog gets car-sick. She was a wiggly, long looking teddy-bar with her tri-colored coat. She slept most of the 2 hour trip home, but of course got sick the last 10 minutes of the ride! Penny has been nothing but a smile maker to all. She has her little sassy, waddling ways that makes her magnetic to all. We take her everywhere we go to socialize with other dogs (she is a shy one) and even to the beach!!! She enjoys long walks in the park, laying all over my flowers, and cuddle sessions while watching the Phillies. Penny is an absolute joy and we cannot imagine our household routines without her hugs and seal-arf woofs! THANK YOU!!

Snickers

SNICKERS Favorite things about our basset:
Snickers is the sweetest, most affectionate little girl, with a bionic tongue! She loves people and dogs, and always gives enthusiastic greetings! This girl has her food slaves well-trained, and enjoys Mommy's homemade dog biscuits. Snickers is always happy, especially when going for rides in the car, and walks at the park. One of her favorite destinations is the drive-thru at the bank, because the tellers give her biscuits!

Snickers loves to cuddle with us on the couch, and especially seems to enjoy the Mets games. She will lay across our lap as we watch tv, and if one of us gets up, she steals our spot on the couch! Perhaps she's just keeping it warm for us? Snickers is a delight, and brings a lot of smiles to our faces!

Linda and Rick

BONNIE
BONNIE This beautiful Basset girl was turned in to a shelter as a stray. She's in a foster home and has settled in well. At approximately 1 1/2 years old and a petite 40 pounds, Bonnie is a small dynamo. She loves to play and rough-house and although she's currently in a foster home with other dogs, Bonnie is an alpha dog who would do best as an only dog. She can be timid around new people and dogs at first but warms up after she gets to know them. This little girl has had a very rough start in life - can you help her have her own 'happily ever after'??
Dido DIDO/CLEO Dido is approximately a year old and is a little firecracker! She does the whole-body wag when she's happy and she always seems to be happy. She came from an abuse situation but luckily, has fully recovered. Dido would do well in a home with another dog or with an active family who will include her in their activities. She will need reinforcement with housetraining. This sweet, petite girl will win your heart!

Adopted Dec 2007 !! An email from her new owner: "In late December we adopted "Dido" from you guys - what a total joy she is. She is so so loveable and snuggles up every night between the two of us. Her name we gave her is Cleo. She gets along very well with Daisy, her " basset sister", who we adopted 5 years ago from an Oklahoma City shelter. She likes to play with the family cat as well. Housebreaking has been a bit of challenge, although she is doing much, much better. I have to say even when she makes mistakes she looks at you with that adorable face and wiggling body, and you cannot help but loving her. "

Shelby
SHELBY Just look at that face! An adorable mix, Shelby is a gentle girl who is looking for a home of her very own. At approximately 6 years old, this sweet Basset mix is definitely up for learning some new tricks. Shelby is currently boarding at a kennel (because no foster home was available) where one of the kennel workers has taught her to give 'High Fives' and is working on other tricks with her.

Shelby was turned in to a shelter by her owners after having her for only two months because they went back to work and she started having some accidents, so a crate is recommended to help reinforce her housetraining. Shelby likes to take walks and is good on a leash. This smart girl would do best in an adult home (teens OK) with no other dogs, as she seems to be afraid of dogs, and may have been treated unkindly by a child.

Fred
FRED Fred's original adopter died and the daughter of the owner took him into her home. Unfortunately, the daughter's husband decided to take him to the local pound and asked the ACO to euthanize him. She contacted TSBHR, who picked up Fred. He is now in a foster home and would like to be in his new forever home ASAP. Estimated to be about 9 years old, he is a funny furguy who will keep you entertained. No other dogs or cats, please! He's enough entertainment!!
WILLOW
WILLOW Willow is a 6 year old Basset with a lot of personality! She was recently returned because she was living with another dog and is an alpha female who needs to be an only dog. She would do well in a household with experienced hound owners who will appreciate her need to receive all the attention and will help her understand her place in the "pack". Willow is housetrained.
Tucker & Domino
TUCKER & DOMINO Tucker is a 5-yr old basset hound who came to us with his 8-yr old Dalmation furbrother Domino. They are very bonded and need to be adopted together. They both have terrific personalities and are good with adults and children. They were turned in when their owner needed to go into a nursing home. Tucker is housetrained, very affectionate and loves to go on walks. Eight-year old Domino is a very calm and sweet Dalmation. He came to us with his 5-yr old basset brother Tucker. They are very bonded and need to be adopted together. Both have terrific personalities and are good with adults and children. They were turned in when their owner needed to go into a nursing home. Domino has some mild wekness in his back legs due to arthritis, which is being treated with supplements but he gets around fine and loves to bounce around with stuffy toys. He will need a refresher with housetraining but should do fine once he settles in to his new home and learns the routine.
JAKE
JAKE TOO 'Love me', says Jake! This five year old sweetie is looking for a new family to provide belly-rubs and an abundance of pets. He's good with his housetraining, doesn't bark much, likes other dogs and kids (over 5 recommended) and is waiting for you! Jake is a nice boy who would be a great companion for an individual or a family ready to share their home with a new furry family member.
LYLE
LYLE This one is definitely a keeper!! Handsome Lyle is one of those 'perfect' dogs that everybody wants. Sweet, mellow, housetrained.....the list of good traits goes on and on. Lyle was turned in to rescue because a young child was tormenting him.....because of that, a home with children over 10 is recommended. His foster mother says that Lyle is 'an easy keeper'. He gets along great with other dogs and is just waiting for his special person to find him. Do you have room in your heart and on your sofa for this senior boy?
Boomer
BOOMER Calling all Basset lovers!! Boomer is a sweetie who came from a shelter when his family moved and couldn't take him with them. He's a real love who was very popular with the staff at the shelter. Boomer is 8 - 9 years old and he gets along with everyone, including cats. He will probably need a little refresher course on housetraining since he was kept outside a lot in his forner home but should do fine once he's settled into his new home. Boomer had a very painful ear infection that had obviously been untreated for a long time when he came to us....he's now on antibiotics and pain medication and is feeling much better. This grateful and happy boy is eager to find his own special family who will love him forever and let him know what it's like to be loved and spoiled.
Bo & Fred
BO & FRED Bo and Fred are 6 year old litter mates who want to find a home together. They're described by their foster dad as "the absolute sweetest and friendliest dogs on the planet bar none (and II"m not exaggerating when I say that)." He says, "They have gotten along with my dog and the three cats (and each other) very well. No issues at all with food aggression or acts of dominance/territoriality. No issues with barking; Fred is the more vocal of the boys but certainly nothing even remotely problematic. They love to eat and they are very active and they have good manners not to beg for food while we are eating. Bo and Fred are house-trained for the most part but they will likely need some quick reinforcement upon entering a new home. Also, the boys are not destructive in any way; they have not chewed or broken anything in the house and they have had free run of the entire house since day one.." More from their foster dad: "Bo is very eager to please at all times and Fred (although also eager to please) seems to march more to the 'beat of his own drum'. During the first few days Fred seemed to exhibit some separation anxiety when I would leave the house but he quickly got past this within a couple of days. One thing worth mentioning: In noticing various behaviors over the past couple of weeks it appears that both of the dogs may have been handled roughly in their previous environment. I think it is very important that they go to a home where they will receive positive reinforcement only and lots of love and attention which they crave. Both boys are very, very sensitive and would not do well in a stern environment."

ABBY

Favorite things about Bassets:  Abby has the sweetest disposition.  She likes to sit with her tongue sticking out of her mouth and likes to give puppy kisses.  She does counter cruise and will steal anything and everything food related if we're not careful.  Abby must be part sloth also because she moves slow and takes her good old time doing everything.  She is a wonderful dog, very attentive, very huggable, giving lots of basset hugs whenever she can.  We absolutely love her.

Challenges you faced:  Abby came to us with in need of extensive dental work.  She had infected teeth and after a consult with our vet had a thorough cleaning and had the infected teeth removed.  Now that her painful teeth have been removed, she eats better and seems to be more comfortable in general.  We also had to deal with a bit of separation anxiety, which resulted in her barking when we left.  It took some time and patience to teach her that this was her home and that we wouldn't leave her.

Human & animal family reactions: Abby's first day home both sides of the family were here to meet her.  Lucy, the resident red and white queen, was stand-offish at first.  Now they get along well enough to share the couch, use each other for pillows, and play together, although Abby can sometimes be a bit too pushy for Lucy's taste.

Things you like to do with your basset:  We like to cuddle on the couch, give lots of attention, play with them, and receive plenty of basset hugs.

Anything else?  Abby is a wonderful dog.  We are fortunate to have her as part of our family.

Thanks!  Jen & Greg

MAX

Hi there,

I just wanted to post a hello to you and give you a quick update on
Max, or as his former foster Mom called him, "Wild Man Max". We
rescued Max on 10/1/05 at the fall Olympics in Wantagh, NY. That was
the season when a lot of canine virus was going around, and my sister
and I went to the event houndless, just to check it out. (And to
shop till we dropped.) We knew one of the volunteers, Sue, who had
just adopted Angelo (now Beau). He was a young puppy, and he was
rescued by Sue within 30 seconds of his showing up. Next we saw
Amanda, and the first thing I asked was, where are the rescue pups?
Now, we had already a few bassets at home, but something was in the
air that let me know that we were getting one that day. Amanda
directed us to the available pet pen, and in it were Max and Roscoe.
I really took to Roscoe, but he was in the pen with his foster Mom's
son, and that little boy was too sad to see Roscoe leave, that I left
that alone. I hate to see children and pets separate!!

Then there was Max. He was really a bit of a sad soul. Not too many people had
interest in him at all, and my sister was immediately grabbed by
him. He was at least 15 lbs underweight, and he has a slight
misshapen bone structure around his front ribcage. We live only 10
minutes away from the park, so Sis and I returned home to discuss
adopting Max with Mom, and we returned with our Pierre and Colette
just to see how Max would do with a couple of our guys. Long story
short, by the end of that afternoon, Max joined our family. I would
be remiss to say that it has been all peaches and cream. Max does
have a history, and he was probably abused, but with lots of love and
careful planning, we have one big happy family.

The icing on the cake for Max, however, was that on April 28, 2007, we rescued another puppy, a 5 month old girl from BHRA, and she is the apple in Max's
eye. Since she arrived, Max has made a 1000% turn around in his
attitude. No longer is he just content and settled in, he is truly a
HAPPY boy. Nikki and Max are very bonded, and Max likes being her
older brother and keeper. I feel that we have the perfect "herd" of
bassets, and I am very thankful to Tri-state basset rescue for the
chance to give Max a chance. I am attaching a photo of Jellybean,
Max and Little Nikki, also know as the 3 amigos. Max is the black
basset. If you wish to post any or all of this story on your
website, my sister would be thrilled. I did mail a story and photos
to Amanda shortly after we rescued Max, but nothing ever appeared.
My sister checks from time to time, and I know it would really make
her day to see a little bit about Max.

Best regards,
Jackie

HOMER

Attached you will find a picture of a Tri-state Basset that my wife and I adopted in April, 2001.  His name is Homer (the one on the left in the picture), and he was two when we adopted him, so he is about 7 now.

Homer has been the highlight of our life for the last few years, and we love him so much that we adopted another basset, Seamus, from our dog walker in 2002.

Homer and Seamus are best friends and are our greatest companions.  They are happy and comfortable in our home and neighborhood.  We always recommend adopting a dog to our friends and family who are interested in getting a dog.

MOLLY

Sweet Molly is a lovely 11 year old who was with a foster family for a year until they moved into a second floor apartment and Molly couldnt handle the stairs.  The foster mom loved Molly dearly and interviewed potential homes to be sure they would love Molly as she did.  Molly now lives with six other dogs, including four other bassets with people who adore her.  Molly has many talents, such as the full body wag (to get treats), the certainty that every time she submits to deep petting sessions she deserves a reward (a cookie) and the understanding that finishing her dinner earns her a cookie.  In fact, Molly could teach graduate classes on eyeballing the ability to make a piece of food jump from human hand to Mollys mouth simply by watching.

The foster family had a hard time letting Molly go, but are relieved that shes found a home that loves and admires her so much.

RALPH JAKE

My name is Debbi and recently adopted Jake, too as he was listed on
the website. I wanted to share how excited we are to have Jake in our home.
He has adjusted well to his slightly older brother, Duncan, who is also a
Basset Hound. Duncan will be six in July and Jake will be six in September.
He enjoys spending his time with our family of 5 people and has proved to be
a snuggler just like Duncan. We vie for space on most of the furniture and
they, many times, have shared a lap. I've been trying to get a picture with
both boys together, but have not been successful.

I didn't know who to send this good news to, so if there is a different
site, let me know. I'm going to attach some recent photos, Easter Day, for
you to share is you want. Jake is still listed as available on the website,
so his picture should probably be deleted. Thanks!

ISAAC B. HOUND and LUCY

Sandy and Bob:

My name is Tony and I adopted Isaac B.Hound and Lucy 2 years ago,and
they have been fine.  They of course are very spoiled and get what they want and more.  They are walked twice a day,and Isaac likes to lay in the backyard or on the lawn chairs that are now his to relax, while Lucy likes to stay inside and play with her toys and sleep on the sofa.  When I walk in the door,Isaac greets me and lays on his back for a belly rub and Lucy brings me her toys to play.  We love them very much! Lucy is a great watch dog! and Isaac barks when Lucy does.

I have attached a picture of Isaac B.Hound for the site and will be sending you more pictures of Lucy also. They are a team! GrandMa Spoils them! They only eat dog food and get boota bones to chew.Isaac only chews on them after Lucy starts them for him.  Or he takes hers outside and hides them.  Lucy loves to play with her ball and bounces it on the floor.  Isaac also loves to watch GrandMa cook and looks in the oven for what is cooking. They both love GrandMa's Roast Beef and Gravy and Mashed Potatoes and Veggies, along with dog food.  Isaac will not pass the oven without looking inside.LOL!  They are so cute and wonderful!  We have an excellent Vet,that loves them. On Isaacs last visit to the Vet,he was having his office painted and Isaac had to help the painter as we heard him yelling for his paint brush back and Isaac came out with paint on him and had to get a bath before the Vet could examine him.  It was a riot!

Everyone loves Lucy and Isaac B.Hound or as we call them the Mr and Mrs.   Just wanted to let you know how we are doing.Hard to believe we have had  them two years already. We plan on coming to the picnic with them.
